THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – AMC continued its The Walking Dead tradition, using the show’s Comic-Con stage to unspool the first look at its upcoming season. But before the new footage was screened, showrunner Scott M. Gimple and the cast took the stage with no introduction and went directly into a dedication for stuntman John Bernecker, who died July 12 after plunging headfirst from a balcony on the show’s Georgia set while attempting a seemingly simple 22-foot fall. Production on season eight was briefly shut down and multiple investigations are underway. (Spinoff Fear the Walking Dead, which paneled before the flagship, also featured a moment of silence for Bernecker.)

“We didn’t know if we should do this panel today. But we wanted to be here for you and do something for John,” a somber Gimple said after noting Bernecker’s countless credits and how much the stuntman loved his job.”John was someone who was beloved in the stunt community. He was living his dream and he helped other people do the same.”

Gimple then introduced the season eight trailer.
