Press: The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan signs on for ABC pilot

EW – With contract uncertainty surrounding an unsigned Lauren Cohan for the already renewed season 9 of The Walking Dead, the actress best known for playing Maggie Greene on the AMC zombie drama has signed on for a lead role in an ABC drama pilot titled Whiskey Cavalier, EW has confirmed.

Cohan will play Frankie Trowbridge (whose codename is Fiery Tribune), a CIA operative who must work with FBI agent Will Chase (whose codename is Whiskey Cavalier and is played by Scott Foley) in the inter-agency drama.

What this means for Cohan’s Walking Dead future remains unclear. Season 8 could mark the end for both Cohan and Maggie, or the actress could return in a limited capacity for season 9, or even as a series regular should Whiskey Cavalier become a midseason entry for 2019. Or, if the new ABC show does not get picked up to series, Cohan could remain on The Walking Dead with a new contract even beyond season 9. But this certainly puts the pressure on AMC to get some sort of deal with Cohan done to make sure an endgame for the character of Maggie is firmly in place.

The Walking Dead returns on Feb. 25 on AMC.

Press: Lauren Cohan Fielding Slew Of Pilot Offers – Is She Done With ‘The Walking Dead’?

DEADLINE – The first batches of offers for the 2018 broadcast pilots are out, and one surprising name has stood out, The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan. The actress, who plays Maggie on the hit AMC zombie drama, has been very sought after with close to half-dozen offers so far.

The development may come as a shock to TWD fans because her character is alive and well on the show where death lurks around every corner. A fan favorite, Cohan has been on the series since the beginning of Season 2, which she joined as a recurring, becoming a series regular in Season 3. Cohan’s contract is up at the end of TWD‘s current eighth season, making her available for new series.

There had been rumblings that Cohan had sought parity with her male co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, who are paid significantly more than all of their female colleagues. I hear that was brought up early on but was not made a make-or-break requirement for Cohan to come back as she had joined the show later than Lincoln and Reedus who, on average, appear in more scenes than just about anyone else on the series. I hear AMC offered Cohan a modest salary increase in exchange for a long-term contract, which was rejected, a standard practice in talent re-negotiations.

Press: Lauren Cohan Joins Mark Walhberg in Action Movie ‘Mile 22’

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) is joining Mark Walhberg in Mile 22, an action movie from STXfilms, the company announced Tuesday.

Peter Berg (Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon) is directing the project that already has a cast that includes John Malkovich, MMA star Ronda Rousey and Asian action star Iko Uwais (The Raid). Filming is set to begin later this month.

The script tells the story of an elite American intelligence officer who, aided by a top-secret tactical command unit, tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of the country.

STX, which recently released Bad Moms Christmas to a lukewarm box-office reception, is hoping Mile 22 launches a franchise for the company and is developing a television series and VR projects around it.

Graham Roland and Lea Carpenter wrote the script. Berg, Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson are producing the pic.

Cohan is best known for portraying Maggie Greene on the AMC hit series The Walking Dead. She also has appeared on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries and in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Cohan is repped by CAA, John Carrabino Management and Hansen, Jacobson.

Lauren Cohan Steps Into Key Role In Tupac Shakur Biopic ‘All Eyez On Me’

DEADLINE – The Walking Dead‘s Lauren Cohan has joined the cast of the Tupac Shakur biopic  All Eyez On Me where she will play Leila Steinberg, a key figure in the young rapper’s life. Steinberg was only 25 years old when she met the 17 year-old rapper Shakur who came to one of her workshops where she mentors kids to use their talent to make their lives better. She knew instantly that he was a different kind of talent and started working with him.

In the end, Tupac and Steinberg became mentors for each other as the young mother worked to learn the ropes and become a business manager. She would end up becoming a major figure the rapper’s young life and career start. Steinberg, whose father was a criminal justice attorney, has undoubtedly changed countless lives as she still mentors kids today both who come from poverty and privilege (who probably would never have met otherwise) through a non-profit called aim4theheart.org. She’s been doing this for 30 years.

All Eyez On Me also stars Demetrius Shipp, Jr. as Tupac. Jamie Hector, Kat Graham and The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira. James G. Robinson, David Robinson (via Morgan Creek Productions) and LT Hutton are producing. Shakur’s mom Afeni Shakur is getting an exec producer credit.

Jeremy Haft and Ed Gonzalez penned the script and the film is being helmed by Benny Boom. The project follows the rise and senseless early death of the rapper on the Las Vegas strip when he was murdered in a drive-by shooting. Open Road is distributing the picture but the date has not been set.

Cohan, who will next be seen in the horror film from STX Entertaiment The Boy, is repped by CAA. The Boy bows Jan. 22 and its creepy trailer has already amassed 16.5 million views. In 2014, Cohan also starred in the John Herzfeld-directed independent film Reach Me alongside Sylvester Stallone, Kyra Sedgwick, and Kelsey Grammar.
